Frequently asked questions

Getting started

Do I need an account?

No. The app works without an account, and your diary is not synchronized to a cloud service operated by the app provider. Just install the app and start logging.

How are my calorie and macro goals calculated?

The app estimates your daily energy needs from the details you enter — age, sex used for calculations, height, weight, activity level, and your goal — then splits that into protein, carbohydrate, and fat targets. You can adjust every target manually. These are general estimates, not medical advice.

Can I use metric or imperial units?

Yes. Choose metric or imperial in settings at any time; existing records are converted for display.

How do I switch between English and Arabic?

Open the app's language setting and choose English or Arabic. Arabic switches the interface to a right-to-left layout. On this website, use the EN/AR control in the header.

Food and diary

How do I search for a food?

Open a meal in the diary, tap search, type the product or food name, and submit. The query is sent to Open Food Facts, and results are cached locally so you can reuse them offline.

Why can't the app find a product?

Open Food Facts is community-contributed, so some products are missing or listed under a different name or region. Check your connection, try a shorter search term or the barcode, and if the product is genuinely absent you can create it as a custom food.

How does barcode scanning work?

The app reads the barcode with the camera and sends only that number to Open Food Facts for a product lookup. Grant camera permission, keep the barcode flat and well lit, and make sure you are online.

How does nutrition-label scanning work?

On supported iPhone and Android devices, the app uses device-integrated text recognition to read a photo of the nutrition label and pre-fill the values. The image is not intentionally uploaded to a server operated by the app provider. Always review the extracted values before saving.

Why might a product's nutrition information be inaccurate?

Product data comes from the Open Food Facts community and can be incomplete, outdated, or simply wrong, and manufacturers change recipes. Check nutrition, ingredient, and allergen details against the packaging.

How do I create a custom food or recipe?

Use the custom food option to enter a name, serving size, and nutrition values, or build a recipe from several ingredients and set the number of servings so per-serving nutrition is calculated for you.

Can I edit a diary entry?

Yes. Open the entry to change its portion, meal, time, or notes, or delete it. Totals and insights update accordingly.

Tracking and reminders

How do I track water, exercise, weight, and steps?

Each tracker has its own section: add drinks as you go, log workouts with duration, record weight as often as you like, and steps appear automatically on supported devices once motion/activity permission is granted.

Why is step counting unavailable?

Step data needs a supported device sensor and the motion/activity permission. Check that the permission is granted in device settings, that your device provides step data, and that the operating system is up to date.

Why am I not receiving reminders?

Confirm notification permission is granted, that the reminder is enabled and scheduled, and that focus, do-not-disturb, or battery-optimization settings are not blocking the app. Restarting the app or device after changing permissions helps.

Can the app track steps in the background?

The app reads step data provided by supported device sensors when you open the app or when the platform makes it available. Behavior depends on your device, operating-system version, and permission and battery settings.

Privacy and data

Where is my data stored?

In the app's local database on your device. The app does not synchronize your diary to a cloud account operated by the app provider, so records leave your device only when you export, back up, or share them.

What information is sent to Open Food Facts?

Only a search term you submit or a barcode you scan or type, so the product can be looked up. Open Food Facts may receive ordinary connection information such as an IP address under its own policies. Your diary is never sent.

How do I export a PDF or CSV report?

Open the reports or export option, choose the date range, and generate the file. You then decide whether to save or share it. Treat exported nutrition reports as sensitive information.

How do I back up or restore my data?

Use the backup option to create a local database backup and store a copy somewhere safe. To restore, choose the backup file and confirm. Restoring replaces your current local database after confirmation, so export anything you still need first.

How do I delete my personal data?

Delete individual entries as you go, or use the delete/clear personal data option in settings. Cached public product information may remain, and any files you already exported must be deleted from where you saved or shared them.

What happens when I uninstall the app?

Uninstalling removes the app and its local database from your device, which permanently deletes records that were not backed up. Create a backup or export first if you want to keep your history.

Quick diagnostic checklist

Most issues are resolved by one of these steps.

  1. 1Update the app to the latest available version.
  2. 2Restart the app, then restart your device.
  3. 3Confirm camera, photos, motion, or notification permissions as relevant.
  4. 4Check your connectivity for food search and barcode lookup.
  5. 5Include the app version, device model, operating-system version, and steps to reproduce when contacting support.
